Life doesn’t have to be all that hard does it? I mean when things get tough for me, it’s usually because I’ve made them that way. It’s because I have dropped the ball in more than one area of my life and am on autopilot and not paying attention. It’s like the perfect storm where everything comes together and all of a sudden things are blowing up all around me and I am ready for a good snotty nose cry.

When this happens I have to just stop myself in my tracks and take a look at everything around me and just reboot. There are three areas I will check to help me reset my course.

The first thing I do is look at my calendar. This is such a great tool, I mean you can even color-code it! When I am spinning though, it just becomes white noise so I have to take a hard look at where I am spending my time, what my commitments are, and who I am spending my time with so I know where I need to make adjustments or what I have to lovingly release. Time is something we cannot get back, so being more intentional about how I spend it and who I spend it with is important.

I don’t know how I expect to run full steam ahead like Wonder Woman when I am not taking care of myself. So the second thing I do is assess what I have been eating and in a lot of cases, not eating. Am I planning and packing my food each day or leaving it to chance? Am I sitting at my computer until I have to go to the bathroom? My body needs fuel and movement, so I need to ensure it gets both every day. On some days, that might mean stepping away, turning up the music, and cleaning my desk and other surfaces in my office…I know I’m weird.

And lastly, there is the mood check. How am I feeling? Am I more sensitive or blue lately? I can’t count on others to make me happy, so I stop and think of ways to treat myself—not a food reward, not something for the house, something just for me. It can be as simple as getting a new shirt or a pair of new-to-me earrings that can instantly give me a lift.

These are just three things that help create some structure to help make my life not only a little easier but a little juicer too. What is screaming at you and what steps can you take to simplify your life?
